Palworld Alpha Pals: Every Alpha Boss Location & Level

8 min readUpdated 2026-08-13

Every open-world game needs its "the big one" encounter, and Palworld's answer is the Alpha spawn — a single, fixed-position, oversized version of an ordinary Pal standing in a field somewhere, daring you to try it at whatever level you happen to be. I've walked into a few of these wildly underprepared, which is a great way to learn exactly how far a level 11 character gets launched by a level 45 lizard.

What Actually Makes a Pal "Alpha"

An Alpha isn't a different species — it's a supercharged instance of one. Same moveset, same element, same general shape, but visibly bigger, wrapped in a glowing aura, and running a boss health bar instead of the usual sliver. Where ordinary wild Pals spawn randomly across a zone at a level roughly matching the area, an Alpha sits in one fixed spot on the map at a level set specifically for that encounter — no random roll, no respawning somewhere else on the next visit. Find one once, and you know exactly where to find that fight again.

Why Bother Hunting Them Down

Two reasons, and they're not mutually exclusive. Catch it, and you get a Pal that comes in with the stat weight of its usually-much-higher Alpha level baked in — a meaningfully better starting point than fishing the same species out of a random field spawn and hoping for a good one. Fight it and walk away instead, and you're still ahead: Alphas drop more loot and hand out more experience than a standard kill of the same species, which makes the detour worth it even when your roster's already full.

The Level Curve, For Real

Zoom out across all 78 documented Alpha spawns in this database — 71 on the main Palpagos map, 7 more in the World Tree region — and the level curve runs from 11 all the way to 79. That's not a typo on the top end: the main map alone tops out at Jetragon, level 70, and the World Tree region pushes two encounters (Aegidron and Celesdir Noct) to 79, past anything the original map has. Levels aren't scattered randomly, either — they track geography. The lowest-level Alphas sit near the start of the game, and the number climbs the farther you wander from there.

Early-Game Alphas Worth a Specific Trip

If you're brand new, five Alphas sit at level 18 or under and are worth going after on purpose rather than stumbling into: Chillet, Gumoss, and Sweepa all spawn at level 11 — the lowest Alpha level documented anywhere — with Dumud at 14 and Penking at 15 close behind. Catching one this early gets you a Pal with noticeably better stats than the wild version you'd otherwise settle for, for a fight your starting gear can actually survive.

The Big Names, Later On

The names most players go looking for on purpose show up once you're deep into the map. Jetragon at level 70 is the highest-level Alpha on the main map, full stop, and doubles as one of the fastest mounts in the game once it's yours. Paladius and Frostallion both sit at level 60, with Frostallion Noct — the World Tree's take on the same Pal — a full five levels higher at 65. None of these are a fair fight without a base's worth of gear behind you first.

World Tree Alphas

The World Tree region of the map adds seven more documented Alpha spawns on top of the main map's 71, and the level range runs noticeably higher there — 55 to 79, with nothing that qualifies as early game. Dualith at level 55 is the easiest entry point into the region's Alphas; Mycora and Whalaska Ignis sit at 78 and 74. Four of the seven — Aegidron, Celesdir Noct, Moldron Cryst, and Renjishi — don't have a Pal page on this site yet, so for now they're on the map by name and level only.

One quirk worth knowing before you go do the math yourself: a couple of species — Jormuntide included — have more than one Alpha spawn point on the main map, both at the same level. If you're specifically farming a species' Alpha for the stat bump, that doubles your shot at it without any extra grinding.

Use the Map Instead of Scrolling a List

I'm not going to reprint all 78 spawn points as a wall of coordinates — that's a genuinely bad way to consume this information, and it's also exactly what the interactive map already does better, with every documented Alpha plotted as a pin. Toggle the Alpha Bosses layer on, search for a specific Pal if you're hunting one species in particular, and it frames the exact spot instead of asking you to translate a screenshot into real coordinates yourself. The World Tree region has its own Alpha Bosses layer too — switch views on the same map rather than hunting down a second guide for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What level are Palworld's Alpha bosses?

They range from level 11 up to level 79 across all 78 documented spawns in this database. The main Palpagos map alone runs 11 to 70 (topping out at Jetragon); the World Tree region pushes two encounters, Aegidron and Celesdir Noct, up to 79.

Is it better to catch or fight an Alpha boss?

Depends what you're after. Catching one gets you a Pal with the stat weight of its higher Alpha level built in — better than gambling on a random wild spawn of the same species. Fighting and walking away still pays off in extra loot and experience compared to a standard kill.

How many Alpha bosses are in Palworld?

78 documented Alpha spawns total across this site's data: 71 on the main overworld map and 7 more in the World Tree region. Both are plotted on the interactive map with an Alpha Bosses toggle layer.

Do Alpha bosses respawn after you defeat them?

Yes — an Alpha isn't a one-time kill. It respawns at the same fixed point after a cooldown, the same as any other wild Pal, which makes it worth revisiting since you already know exactly where it is.

Where is Jetragon in Palworld?

Jetragon is a fixed Alpha spawn at level 70, the highest-level Alpha documented on the main Palpagos map. The exact pin is on this site's interactive map with the Alpha Bosses layer toggled on, or see its Pal page for details.
